Value of IWU Experience Motivates Thorstensons' Support

Bob and Diane Thorstenson have included Illinois Wesleyan in their estate plans for one simple reason: They believe in the University's mission and principles.

Diane, a 1957 graduate, says the University's faculty-student ratio means IWU students have close relationships with their professors when it comes to choosing a major, getting extra help in a course or staying in touch after graduation.

"We've always believed that the University's smaller size makes a real impact on the lives of students," Diane says. "I chose the school for its size, and it was the right decision for me." The Thorstensons' son, Todd, also chose Illinois Wesleyan for his undergraduate degree. "That decision made us very happy, but he did it on his own, not because I went there," Diane says.

Diane and Bob have made many financial contributions to the University over the course of decades, but adding a bequest to their estate plans means they will support IWU students for years to come.

"It was natural for us to include Illinois Wesleyan as we were planning to support what we believe and to give back to the University," Diane says. "We believe strongly in the University's principles and its size, and anyone who has an association with IWU knows what a fine institution it is."
